  • Abstract:
A simplified model has been developed that not only determines the operational (ie., heating, cooling and lighting) energy requirement of buildings but also gives an estimation of their effect on the capital construction cost. Traditional cost estimations methods and recent developments in cost modelling are reviewed. A cost model is proposed and incorporated in the energy model to give cost estimations in the early stages of design. The model can be used in parametric analysis to investigate the implications of varying building and cost parameters.
